Why We Need To Speak Up
Transcript:
I can understand how some Chinese in Singapura do not see the racism around them.
They are privileged.
This country was built in their image.
How would they know racism when they do not feel it, do not live through it?
But that’s only part of the story.
The other part… is us.
The Malays are a soft, gentle people.
We do not like upsetting others.
We want everyone to feel welcomed. Appreciated.
So we keep quiet.
And because we keep quiet, the racism continues.
And as it continues…
We stay second class.
Our children stay second class.
And we slowly change our thoughts… our culture… our beliefs…
To fit what they want us to be.
