Who Caused The 1964 Racial Riots?
Transcript:
Who caused the racial riots in Singapura in 1964? The PAP claimed it was started by the Malays.
They specifically accused UMNO and Syed Jaafar Albar as the instigators.
What they have never admitted is that PAP and Lee Kuan Yew had also provoked the riots.
And while the PAP claimed it was started by Malays, the actual riot was due to bottles thrown from the Kallang flats during the Maulidur Rasul procession.
Years ago, I met with some men who were in the procession and said they were hit with bottles.
They saw their friends bleeding. That was the start of the riot.
The bottles were thrown by Chinese youths.
And so when the Prophet Muhammad's day, there was a a demonstration. From all accounts, the demonstration was peaceful until it reach Kallang. Kallang near the you know, you know Singapura, the Kallang Lavender Street, Kallang area. And somebody threw a bottle from upstairs, the shop house. Now who did it? Nobody knows. But you can be sure that those flats are all occupied by Chinese.
