Lee Kuan Yew and The Sook Ching Massacre
Transcript:
So as mentioned in my video yesterday, between 25,000–50,000 Chinese were massacred by the Japanese military in Singapura in an operation known as Sook Ching.
Chinese men in masks would tell Japanese soldiers who they suspected of helping China. These suspects were then brought to the beaches and shot.
But what happened to Lee Kuan Yew?
According to his own account, he had been pulled away to join the group that was about to be killed. But he pleaded with the Japanese soldier to allow him to get his clothes. And was let away.
Really?
The Japanese soldier simply let Lee Kuan Yew walk away from being killed… just to get his clothes?
Why would he need his clothes if the soldier knew he was going to be killed?
But that is the story Singapurans believe. We are reminded that Lee Kuan Yew is a survivor.
What we do know about Lee Kuan Yew is that soon after that, he worked for the Japanese propaganda department.
Lee Kuan Yew also went into business to build military barracks for the Japanese occupiers. He made so much money during the Japanese occupation that he was able to finance his life and studies in the UK after the war.
He made a lot of money from the Japanese.
At the end of the war, with the Allied Forces about to enter Singapura, Lee Kuan Yew was so scared that he tried to run away. He had chosen the Cameron Highlands to hide away but could not leave without arousing the suspicion of his Japanese masters.
The questions for me are this: how did Lee Kuan Yew really save himself from the Sook Ching massacre? And how did he get to work so closely with the Japanese military during the war?
But Lee Kuan Yew is a known survivor. He will do anything to save himself.
